The Coal Authority holds and maintains the national coal mining database and its Mining Reports Service provides a fast, accurate, property-specific and cost-effective coal mining service for any property in Scotland, England and Wales.
Since 23rd October 2006, the coal mining search in England and Wales also includes information about Cheshire Brine subsidence claims.
A mining report enables you to determine whether a property has been subject to any mining related issues in the past. Mining reports on residential and commercial properties are provided by the relevant authorities.
When buying a property in a coalfield area it is advisable to obtain a coal mining report. The report will highlight recorded mining conditions and information about past, present and future mining operations.
Items included in the Coal Mining Report:
- Past Underground Mining
- Present Underground Mining
- Proposed Underground Mining
- Shaft & Adits or other entries to underground coal mine workings within the property or within 20 metres of the property boundary
- Surface Geology – This shows if there is any fault or other line of weakness at the surface which is know to the Coal Authority that will affect the stability of the property.
- Past Opencast Mining
- Present Opencast Mining
- Future / Proposed Opencast Mining
- Subsistence
