A code of practice for home information packs (Hips) has been put in place ahead of their roll out next year.
The new standards have been announced by the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (Ahipp) and have been devised to provide maximum consumer protection.
All of Ahipp's pack providers will be able to subscribe to the voluntary code of practice from the end of this month.
"The government has already announced that they will be regulating all home inspectors - we are now taking this a step further to provide a voluntary code of practice for pack providers too," said Mike Ockenden, director general of Ahipp.
He added: "All of our members' packs will be authenticated with the Ahipp logo and an independent compliance board has been set up to monitor the performance of providers, under the code."
